Urinary Incontinence

There are three kinds of urinary incontinence that can be treated by a physical therapist, including stress, urge, and mixed incontinence. Stress is the problem when a person laughs or coughs or sneezes and experiences a leak. Urge is when a person is rushing to the toilet but leaks on the way. Mixed is when a person has some of both problems.

Women can overcome conditions such as stress, urge, and mixed urinary incontinence using physical therapy. The treatment is without drugs, invasion, or side effects. Treatment strategies include biofeedback, electrical stimulation, bladder retraining, fluid management, and exercise. Many women see improvement in just a single visit, others need to come for as many as 7 visits.
